“Give a child a fish and you feed them for a day, teach a child how to
fish,
and you feed them for life” (Adapted Chinese proverb)
Darasamuth English Programme, part of the
Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, was formed during the academic
year 2002/2003. The English Programme (EP) and Mini English Programme
(MEP) operate as a small “community” within the grounds of the wider school. We currently offer KG2-P6 (EP) and P1-P3
(MEP).
The aim of
Darasamuth EP is for its native English teachers to facilitate the student’s
language acquisition. We seek to give
the students the tools to think for themselves both inside and outside of the
classroom setting, whilst maintaining a holistic, child-centred approach to
learning. Subjects taught by the foreign teacher are English (phonics / grammar
/ literacy), Maths, Science, Social studies, Sport and other development
activities.
We also offer
small group learning to students who require additional support and a school-wide
structured reading scheme.
Darsamuth EP
upholds and instils Thai cultural values to its students. Students are encouraged to display polite and
acceptable behaviour, in school and at home.
EP and home-room assemblies award good example of citizenship. Foreign teachers are ‘home-room’ teachers,
which nurtures a good pastoral relationship with the students.
The
EP views parental communication as key to its success as parents are the key
stakeholders to the organisation. We
have an EP PTA (Parent Teachers Association), issue monthly newsletters and run
parent’s evenings.
